GUY DE JAEGHER Hyper-realistic painter

Guy De Jaegher (1944, Kortrijk) has been aptly defined as a foremost contemporary fine painter, with a focus on object naturalism and known for his meticulous traditional craftmanship and magnificent still lifes.
In his youth he attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in his native Courtrai and studied graphic arts and calligraphy at the famous Saint Luke’s Institute in Tournai.

GUY DE JAEGHERARTIST STATEMENT

Initially there was the Academy that taught me the impressionism technique, the wet on wet or alla prima technique in oil painting. Those techniques who requires a fast way of working. A regular introduction to Modernism, being the common horizon of painting at those times. And that was it.

The classical tradition that painted rational compositions and created cool beauty had been left out, seemingly surpassing love and skills in training staff.
